SPCC INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

WHAT TO EXPECT

College & professional interns are vital to our work at SPCC. Interns are immersed in SPCC’s unique professional environment which blends evidenced based-practice and skillful, empathetic partnering with families we serve. Our partnerships with interns allow students to have firsthand experience of systems work, clinical skill building, current trends, professional communication, and collaboration while providing the agency with additional support in serving the families and children in our programs. SPCC recognizes that interns bring fresh, innovative ways of thinking about the work we do, and we appreciate the collaborative partnership.

SPCC places great value on our interns, the partnership we create, and the services we provide the community. SPCC spends significant time, energy and assessment each year reviewing potential intern applications and conducting interviews. Our intent is to select interns whose learning needs, passions, commitment and professionalism are congruent with our agency and programs.

Due to limited internship opportunities and large numbers of applicants, we cannot guarantee that every applicant will be accepted.

OUR PROCESS & TIMELINE

Applying for internships can be an exciting and stressful experience. We hope that our clear and transparent timeline and process for intern applications provides comprehensive information and knowledge of what to expect and when to expect it. While interns may consult heavily with their school internship coordinator, our process requires direct participation from the individual intern from beginning to end.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Review our website information regarding our various internship opportunities in our programs to determine which may be the best fit for you.
  2. Please return all forms along with your resume by March 15th to Leah Elliott at LElliott@spcc-roch.org

Important dates for traditional academic-year placements

Please note that we do accept internships that begin throughout the year. If you are an intern applicant with a start date other than the beginning of a Fall semester, please contact us, or submit your application materials with your desired start date clearly marked.

**Applications for the following fall are due by March 15th.**

March 15th: Applications will begin being reviewed for the following fall and selected applicants will be contacted for an interview. Because slots are limited and the amount of interested students is beyond our capacity, all applicants are not guaranteed an interview.

** All applicants who have been invited for an interview will be contacted by mid-April. **

April 1st: Interviews begin and notifications will be made throughout the next month. Because slots are limited and the amount of interested students is beyond our capacity, all applicants who interview are not guaranteed placement.

**All interviewed applicants for the fall semester will be notified by mid-May. **

Last week of August: Internships begin. A mandatory intern orientation will occur within the first 30 days of the start date. Please note that some internships have a summer reading/online training requirement.
