May 2018: SPCC Society for the Protection and Care of Children receives funding from NYS Office of Children and Family Services to fund Healthy Families Monroe Program:
The Society for the Protection and Care of Children (SPCC) has been awarded the Healthy Families New York contract to serve the County of Monroe. The program is funded by the NY Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and MIECHV-The Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting.
Healthy Families is a voluntary Home Visiting program for expectant and new parents. The goals of the program are to promote positive parenting skills, parent-child bonding and interaction, prevent child abuse and neglect, promote optimal prenatal care and child health and development and enhance family self-sufficiency.
Based on the Healthy Families America model, trained professionals use a strengths-based approach to service provision and provide intensive in-home services until the child enters school or Head Start. It is an evidence-based program where research demonstrates the critical importance of early life experiences on children’s health and development. This program will target several zip codes in Rochester, which have a record high of premature births and low birth weights, along with an infant mortality rate that is double the County average.
Services include educating families on parenting and child development; connecting families with medical providers for prenatal/well-baby visits and immunizations; assessing children for developmental delays; and helping families access community referral resources and services.
The Society for the Protection and Care of Children (SPCC) is a local non-profit who has been selected to administer the program in Monroe County. SPCC's mission is to provide the best opportunities for a bright future by respectfully partnering with children and their families, advocating for their health, well-being and safety, and working to heal and strengthen relationships. Healing the past, nurturing the future.
Lisa Butt, SPCC President and CEO says “The Healthy Families Monroe program is the perfect fit for SPCC’s menu of services. SPCC serves over 7,000 individuals annually in our Family Trauma Intervention Program, Teen Age Parent Support Services, Supervised Visitation, Therapeutic Visitation, WIC and WIC Vendor Management programs. The services that Healthy Families provides and the method of delivering services will have a great impact on the community.”
